Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Xi’an (L)
Upon arrival in Xi'an, you'll be greeted by a tour guide and then transferred to your hotel.
Day 2: Arrive in Xi’an (L)
In 221 BC, Qin Shi Huang unified China and became the first emperor. When he died, an entire Terra Cotta Army was constructed to be buried along with the emperor. It was uncovered serendipitously in 1974 by farmers, and then became one of the century's greatest archaeological discoveries. You will visit the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum, and Terra Cotta Army replication factory.
Day 3: Xi'an (AB, L)/Beijing
Visit the Small Wild Goose Pagoda Scenic Area, then the Muslim Street, the local Bazaar, as well as the Great Mosque. Afterwards, transfer to visit the ancient City Wall of Xi’an, one of the existing best preserved city walls in China, and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
Day 4: Beijing (AB, L, D)
This morning, you will see Tiananmen Square, which is noted as the largest public square in the world and then the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City. The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing dynasty. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese government. Later stop at a Pearl Factory to gain a little knowledge of fresh pearls. Rest of the day is free at leisure.
Day 5: Beijing (AB, L)
Afterwards, enjoy an excursion to the Great Wall of China, which is one of the seven greatest man-made wonders of the world and is definitely the focal point of China. Experience the wonder of walking this ancient monument before heading to a Jade Museum to learn the history of Jade. In Chinese, jade is pronounced as 'Yu', and it has a history in China of at least four thousand years. Tonight, choose to attend an optional large scale dramatic musical, “The Golden Mask Dynasty” (at your own expense). hina of at least four thousand years.
Day 6: Beijing (AB, L)
Visit the Beijing Zoo to see China’s adorable national treasure – the Giant Panda. Then visit a Chinese Herbal Institute to learn about traditional Chinese medicine and enjoy a rejuvenating foot massage which has existed for thousands of years. Afterwards take a trip to the cooking school, located in one of Beijing's Hutongs. Then enjoy a Tai Chi class under the guidance of a Tai Chi Master. Thai Chi is a full presentation of Taoism and Yin Yang philosophy in both English and Chinese with amusing and instructive interaction. It is easy-to-learn and provides an effective form of relaxation.
In the afternoon, tour Beijing’s 700 year old Hutong's (narrow lanes) area by old fashioned pedicab (at your own expense), as well as visit a local family living in a courtyard style home to experience the local customs of old Beijing people and their unique architectural structure.
Day 7: Beijing / Shanghai (AB) High speed train or Fly (subject to local arrangement)
Take a high speed train or fly to Shanghai in the morning. After arrival you will then drive to Shanghai to visit the Bund. Shanghai is divided by the Huang Pu River into eastern and western sections. Modern mega high rises are seen on the eastern side while traditional European style architecture may be seen on the western side. The Bund is a five-block riverfront promenade with many of Shanghai's banks and trading houses.
Day 8: Shanghai (AB)
Free at leisure for last minute souvenir shopping or just relax at your hotel.
Day 9: Shanghai / Gateway (AB)
Farewell to China, you'll be escorted to the airport to board your flight.
