David Oakes
A self confessed Skiwi (Scottish Kiwi), David is NZ's No.1 Scottish comedian, out of two.
David first hit the boards in 2010 after discovering he was a frustrated mobile DJ who preferred to be on the mic to spinning discs. Since then he's gone from strength to strength performing professionally with some of the best comedians in NZ and from around the world including Paul Ego (NZ), Ben Hurley (NZ), Urzila Carlson (SA/NZ), Gordon Southern (UK), Tom Binns (UK), Marcel Lucont (FRA) and the late great Ewen Gilmour (NZ). A semi finalist in the 2012 RAW comedy Quest and picked up NZ Comedy Guild Award nominations in 2012, '14 for Most Outstanding contribution to the industry.
David has made some vain attempts to boost his comedy career by appearing on TV's Shortland St, Power Rangers and ads for Toyota Camry and Bay Audiology amongst others. His style displays a slightly distorted view on life delivering clever witted anecdotes and random one liners. David performed his first festival show, The Nowhere show in 2012 in the NZ International Comedy Festival and his 2nd show, Scotch and Wry in 2013 outside of the festival. After a three-year hiatus he now brings his 3rd show, Limited Company, touring in 2016.
