Located between the provinces of Touraine, Berry adn Boitou, Château des Vallees was built in the 19th century on the ruins of a castle which was destroyed during the French Revolution. The estate has been owned by the Lheritier Chezelle, one of Napoleon's generals, and Mado Robin, a famous French coloratura soprano singer. Today, it is run by Justin Onclin, who also owns Château Branas Poujeaux. Ripe and approachable, Merlot-dominant Bordeaux with a touch of Cabernet in the mix, the plums and blackberries given a gentle nudge of spice and a helping of fine tannins. Inexpensive, easy drinking and a great introduction to Bordeaux.
