About Akaroa Guided Kayak Safaris:
Akaroa Guided Kayak Safaris is Kiwi owned and operated, with impeccable TripAdvisor reviews, and they take pride in providing you with the best, experienced guides and great local knowledge. There's no better way to explore this special marine reserve in safety and comfort than with these guys.
This is the most environmentally sensitive tour in the harbour. Small group numbers are key as you'll be visiting fragile, pristine, and relatively undisturbed natural areas, so you can enjoy exploring this marine reserve in a low-impact and environmentally responsible way. Close encounters. No noise, no engines, no crowds, no pollution!
Why Guided? With over 17 hectares of stunning bays and inlets, you'd be crazy to go without a knowledgeable local guide. Instead of paddling in circles, and looking for a needle in a haystack, your knowledgeable, qualified local guide will show you all the secret spots, including when and where to go to maximise your time on the water, and most importantly they will keep you safe in New Zealand's ever-changing weather conditions.
Seventy-five kilometres from Christchurch, Akaroa is a historic French settlement nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano. The clean, sparkling water of the harbour is the home to a variety of amazing sea life, including the Hector dolphin – the world’s smallest dolphin – as well as a variety of seabirds, seals and little white-flippered penguins.
You don’t need any previous kayaking experience but you do need a basic level of fitness and you may need to carry your kayak a short distance with your paddling partner. Groups are small, with a maximum of 8 guests per safari, and you travel in double sea kayaks which are very stable. You’ll listen to a comprehensive safety briefing before you start, so you’ll be safe and secure and confident during your safari.
Akaroa Guided Kayak Safaris is a proud recipient of the highly regarded Outdoor Mark Safety Audit certification. This means your safety is their number one priority at all times, so get out on the water this spring! Akaora Guided Kayak Safaris will go that extra mile to make sure you have an unforgettable paddle!
