• 9.30am: Check-in and board
• 10.00am: Depart Havelock Marina
• 10.00am - 12.00pm*: Various deliveries and transfers – highlights may include mussel farm tour and bush walk
• 12.00pm*: Stop for lunch – BYO picnic
• 12.45pm to 3.30pm*: Various deliveries and transfers – highlights may include cruising past the king shag colony or remote island
• 3.30pm - 4.30pm: Return to Havelock Marina

About The Pelorus Mail Boat:

The Pelorus Sound is the largest of all the sounds in the Marlborough region and home to dolphins, blue penguins, and shags. The pristine waters are sprinkled with mussel farms and remote beaches which are well worth a glimpse. Mail was first delivered to the Marlborough Sounds by Government Steamer in 1912. The Steamer put the mail ashore at various small Post Offices throughout the area and the residents had to row to these points to pick their mail up.

In 1918 the Government decided to put the Service out to Private Operators and the Mail Run, as it's still done today, was born. In the early years, most of the goods carried were farming supplies and a few tourists. These days, farm supplies and residents were still taken to and from their homes. In summer, people are dropped at their holiday homes and also taken to some of the unique holiday accommodation available in the Pelorus Sound. Even better, the mail runners warmly welcome people who wish to share the day as they make their deliveries and help to support the community of Pelorus Sound.
