About The Aviator Experience:
Craig Saunders was always passionate about military aviation, having been in the RNZAF back in the days of Top Gun. He got over his dream of being a Fighter Jet Pilot and worked hard in the Airforce as an Avionics Technician instead. Working on Aermacchis and Andovers, he got to take the occasional joy ride in the jump seat of these jets before H & S was considered a thing. The technical skills he learnt and the attention to detail required are now well utilised at The Aviator Experience.
The introduction of Virtual Reality added a whole new dimension to flight simulation. The 3D effect allowed for incredible depth perception and a real sense of height and speed. Although this new tech made the flight simulation experience incredibly realistic visually, it still didn't satisfy Craig's desire to produce an experience close to the exhilaration of flying in a real military jet. After much research to ensure the perfect machine, a full 'Six Degrees of Axis' motion platform was fitted with a replica F-18 Hornet cockpit. Combined with VR technology and some very clever software magic, this Full Motion Flight Simulator is as good as it gets.
Most of their set is manufactured in Tauranga - keeping it local. The sims are decked out with replica ejection seats that are regularly mistaken for real ones, and instruments that have been crafted to include every little original detail.
