Mt Ruapehu is home to two of New Zealand’s largest ski areas: Whakapapa and Turoa. Mt Ruapehu offers something for everyone: premier beginners’ facilities, terrain parks for all abilities, and the best spring skiing and riding in New Zealand.
Whakapapa Ski Area, situated on the north-western slopes of Mt Ruapehu, is New Zealand’s largest ski area. Whakapapa is the perfect winter getaway destination for the whole family, home to New Zealand’s premier beginners’ area, Happy Valley; a fantastic variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced trails; beginner terrain parks; and New Zealand’s highest café, the Knoll Ridge Café.
Turoa Ski Area, situated on the southwestern slopes of Mt Ruapehu, offers a huge variety of trails, a dedicated freestyle terrain park, and a massive 722 metres of vertical descent from the top of Australasia’s highest chairlift, the Highnoon Express. Wide-open trails, pristine groomed runs, natural bowls and chutes will keep even the most experience snow sports enthusiasts grinning from ear to ear.
