Day 1: Auckland
Airport - Claris Airport, Great Barrier Island

Arrive at Claris Airport, Great Barrier Island. Collect your rental car (Toyota Rav 4, or Nissan XTrail).
Great Barrier Island is unique, with its own special atmosphere. It is an outdoor destination where you can enjoy tramping and meeting locals in pubs, restaurants and at the Great Barrier Lodge on Friday evening during the Happy Hour. The island, population just under 1000 permanent residents, features the most beautiful North Island scenery: white sand beaches, tidal bays, canyons and rocky hills covered with native bush. Numerous walking tracks are available to explore this untouched paradise. Be aware that due to the remote location of the island, food and basic products are more expensive on Great Barrier Island. If possible, bring a few essentials with you, also you’ll find convenient stores in Claris and Tryphena and a local pub offering great food at a reasonable price (Currach Irish Pub). Petrol is slightly more expensive too.
Tryphena is a harbour located at the south west end of the island. Surrounded by hills and sheltered from the wind, it’s the most populated area of the island. You'll find a few walks, a swimming beach and an amazing local atmosphere if you happen to hang out at the pub.
Great Barrier Lodge - Experience the peace and tranquillity of Great Barrier Island right at your doorstep. The Lodge overlooks the beautiful Whangaparapara Harbour with fabulous views from absolute waterfront suites surrounded by spectacular bush clad scenery.
Day 2: Great Barrier Island
Great Barrier Cruise: If an exhilarating cruise along Great Barrier Islands most beautiful stretch of coastline, invigorating fresh sea air, dolphin encounters and stunning scenery sounds appealing - then this is the cruise for you. It includes sightseeing in the Whangaparapara Harbour before heading up through the amazing Broken Islands and into the Man O' War Passage entrance to Port Fitzroy Harbour. A delicious on-board lunch will be prepared and served in a sheltered bay before your return cruise to Whangaparapara.

Regional optional highlight:
Kaitoke Walk & Hot Springs: is one of the major attractions of the island. Allow a half an hour drive from Tryphena and 15 min from Claris Airport. After 3 kms on Whangaparapara Rd, a sign indicates the start of the walk. You’ll reach the hot springs after 45 min walking through the Kaitoke wetlands and a regenerating bush featuring nikau and kanuka. There is not a lot of infrastructure, but a natural pool allows you to rest and relax in the hot water.
