About the Tour:
Eight days Basel-Rüdesheim-Amsterdam-Cologne. Experience legendary castles, vibrant towns and cities and romantic wine regions: This cruise reveals why the Rhine is so beautiful. From the Rhine Knee near Basel, you will travel through the Upper Rhine Valley and the impressive breakthrough in the Rhenish Slate Mountains, up to the Rhine's delta in the Netherlands. You will experience the full glory of this Central European river and its diverse landscapes. You will visit some of the most interesting towns in four countries, as well as impressive architectural landmarks, vineyards, castles and ruins as far as the eye can see - a week of memorable experiences.
The ship itself is of top standard. Tgenerouslyous sized cabins offer all conveniences and fantastic views. Throughout the ship, the large panorama windows provide fabulous views over the river and scenic highlights. The cuisine on-board is also superb.
Itinerary:
Day 1 - Basel
Embark 3.00 p.m. Optional city tour/walk through historic Basel, including Market and Münsterplatz (begins at 3.30 p.m. dep. Basel Bad station). Mooring at Kembs later in the day.
Day 2 - Strasbourg / Kehl
Optional city tour/walk through Strasbourg with a visit to the cathedral of Notre-Dame. Time to make your own discoveries.
Day 3 - Mannheim
Excursion to the beautiful cathedral city of Speyer. Travel with the Winzerexpress train to "Siegfried‘s Mechanical Music Cabinet" with 350 automatically playing instruments. Moorning in Rüdesheim in the evening.
Day 4 - Middle Rhine Valley
Pass by the famous Lorelei. Moorning in Koblenz, followed by an optional guided walk through Koblenz, the city on the "German Triangle", and cable car trip to the fortress of hrenbreitstein with a magnificent panoramic view. Time to make your own discoveries.
Day 5 - Cologne
Optional guided walk through the cathedral city of Cologne with traditional Kölsch beer
Day 6 - Amsterdam Mooring 8.00am Cast off 12.00am
Optional "Bright lights of Amsterdam": excursion with a tour of the "Grachten" with their typical merchant houses. Excursion to Northern Holland, including visits to an open-air museum and a cheese dairy. Evening tour of the fascinating colourful side of Amsterdam, including the famous Red Light District and Chinatown
Day 7 - Nijmegen
Guided tour through the friendly Hanseatic city Nijmegen. Afterwards, there will be time for a stroll
Day 8 - Cologne
Tour commences in Basel and concludes in Cologne.
