Swing dancing is an umbrella term used for a group of vintage dance styles popular in the 1920’s to 1940’s, usually danced to jazz and big band music. The team at Nelzapoppin are here to get you into the swing of things. Some of these dances have survived the swing era, the most popular of which is Lindy hop, which originated in Harlem in the 1930’s. This is the style of swing dancing we teach in Nelson and we love it! Lindy hop evolved from the Charleston and other dance forms, and is characterised by its fun and playful nature. It consists of a range of core moves, filled out with heaps of improvisation and goofing about! Instead of dancing in an elegant, upright posture, Lindy hoppers dance with a low athletic stance. It is addictive and joyful, which you will see for yourself if you join our super-friendly and laid back classes
