Kapiti Island Rangatira Experience - Self-Guided Day Trip incl. Ferry Transport, Introductory Talk & DOC Permit - Option for Adult or Child
Highlights
Kapiti Island is a world-renowned nature reserve less than an hour north of Wellington. It’s home to an abundance of native and endangered species like Little Spotted Kiwi, Takahe, and the cheeky Kaka.
Grab a day trip to this unique island with the whanau who have lived there for 200 years.
Arriving at Rangatira Point, you’ll enjoy a day of exploring the forest track, with the option of a more challenging summit walk. Shortly after the introductory kōrero, you’ll have the option to join the guide for a bird-call identification session at the historic whare.
To finish off your Day Tour, before the boat departs, there is another kōrero with the guide. This takes place back at the visitor shelter, and covers the rich history of Kapiti Island.
On the ferry ride over you may spot seals, pods of dolphins and orca whales swimming in the waters of the Rau-o-Te-Rangi channel.
Valid for sailings commencing from 4th September up until 17th December 2026.
