Jules Taylor has always done things her way - even as far back as the late 1980s, when she was head girl at Marlborough Girls' College, her way and the school's way seem to have been drawn on two very different maps. Today, her own wine label 'Jules Taylor' is no exception. One thing about growing up in Marlborough is that the eb and flow of the viticultural seasons have never been far from her view. Although she calls Marlborough ''home'' Jules spent much time wondering the globe's other wine producing areas, working several vintages in Italy. On returning home to Marlborough, she slotted straight away in to a job making wine for Kim Crawford, Saint Clair and Cape Campbell, and that was where Jules Taylor Wines begun, producing 200 cases under her own label in 2001. Now, as mother of two young boys (Louis and Nico), Jules manages to juggle motherhood with winemaking and working with husband George to build her own label. Although it's hard work building her own wine brand, she has the chance to really play around with different winemaking techniques, have some good fun, and do things in her own unique and daring way. By now something of a national institution with a legion of fans, JT’s benchmark Sauvignon never fails to deliver. Vivid aromatics of passionfruit and tropical citrus introduce an elegant palate of mineral-tinged melons, limes and pineapples, nuanced by herbaceous notes, a sublimely textural mouthfeel and a sighingly long finish.
